Napier Girls’ High School Sets the Standard for Safer Roads

Napier Girls’ High School’s SADD group has once again shown what it means to lead the way in road safety - creating fun, meaningful events that make a real difference in their school community.

This awesome team continues to stand out thanks to their strong teamwork and the support of their teacher, Stacey Chandler. Earlier in the year, they teamed up with RoadSafe Hawke’s Bay and NZ Police to host a road safety expo at school. Mel, the SADD Programme Delivery Lead for the Central North Island, said she received amazing feedback about how well the students ran their activities - a true example of SADD students stepping up and owning their message.

To wrap up the year, the group went out with a bang, hosting another epic event supported by Helen Small from RoadSafe Hawke’s Bay and Mark from NZ Police. There was a classic sausage sizzle (thanks to Mark and a few keen students!), a photo booth, road safety quizzes, and impairment goggles that gave everyone a real-life look at how dangerous driving while impaired can be. With spot prizes and heaps of energy, the event drew a big crowd and created a fun, positive vibe while keeping the road safety message front and centre.

It was the perfect way to finish the year - reminding everyone to make safe choices and look out for their mates as the summer and Christmas holidays kick off.

And the best part? The momentum doesn’t stop here. Plans are already underway for 2026, with a SADD workshop locked in for Term 1 in the Hawke’s Bay region. This workshop will be a chance for students to connect, share ideas, and build confidence as SADD leaders heading into the year ahead.

It’s shaping up to be another exciting year for SADD students across the region - and Napier Girls’ High School is helping lead the way!
