Sharing our roads

“We understand we are all part of a collective and act in a safe way to protect ourselves and other road users”

There are more than just cars on the roads and it is important that we look out for all road users, no matter how they choose to get around. Sharing our roads means more than just looking out for what other drivers are doing - it means safely navigating intersections, crossings and other features of the road too. Our ‘sharing our roads’ aspiration is focused on ensuring all road users know not just what to do, but also how to do it safely.

Don’t Muck with a Truck is an engaging programme originally developed by Australia’s National Heavy Vehicle Regulator and has been adapted for use in New Zealand with their generous support. It’s designed primarily for young drivers aged 16–25, but the information and safety tips are valuable for all road users.

The content focuses on helping people understand how heavy vehicles operate, the physics behind their movement, and practical ways to stay safe when sharing the road with trucks. Click here to register for the programme.
