Malcolm Budd

After 47 years in the transport industry, 17 of those years with Ritchie’s Coachlines, I recently retired. My roles with Ritchie’s included Area Manager and more recently National Business Development Manager. I was born in Oamaru and have lived in Dunedin for 47 years. I am married with 2 children and 4 grandchildren.

I have always had a keen interest and passion for transport and road safety. I am involved in motorsport both as a competitor and administrator and a life member of the Otago Sports Car Club.

I have been on the Otago District Council for 12 years, the last 4 years as District Chairman and 2 years as National Councillor. I was recently appointed to the SADD/Kaitiaki o Ara board for a 3-year term.

As Chairman I was instrumental in co-opting a cadet councillor onto the Otago District Council who stood for election at our 2021 AGM and subsequently elected as a District Councillor. We have now co-opted another cadet councillor to fill that role.

One of my goals is to work with NZTA and AA to help reduce the road toll and make roads safer for all users.
