September’s social media challenge!
This year our normal SAFER September campaign has looked a lot different than hoped, we now find ourselves with just over three weeks left of term 3. Some of Aotearoa is now in level 2, but the Auckland region is in level 4 still, and things are generally a bit uncertain.
If your group is heading back to school and has some plans for a SADD activity this term, awesome! But we want to remind you that there are other ways to spread road safety messages if you cannot run anything in school this term, and our ‘September social media challenge’ is one way to do this!
Criteria for this challenge:
You have the rest of this term to create a SADD group Instagram or Tiktok page, to post road safety messages via social media, if you already have one then you are on the way!
All SADD group pages posting during the rest of the term will qualify for this challenge (so make sure you follow and tag @saddnz so that we know your page exists)
Get posting those road safety messages and have fun with it!
Keeping up the road safety conversations is important, sadly 9 people lost their lives on the roads during the first 2 weeks of lockdown. We still need to encourage our communities to drive safely.
Our SADD staff team will be keeping an eye on your social media pages and what you post throughout the rest of the term. On October the 7th we will be announcing some spot prize winners for those groups that contribute well to the challenge! These prizes will be a range of things from t-shirts, a pizza lunch, or some funding for your group towards a future SADD activity.
Here are some handy tips and tricks for getting going!
Meet with your SADD group asap, and make a plan
If you don’t already have a page, create one (School name, SADD e.g. Albany High SADD)
Start posting and growing your following (look at SADD’s IG for inspiration)
Use SADD’s 6 principles for topic ideas
Use SADD’s new stickers on your page’s stories (video guide below)
If everyone in your SADD group planned one piece of content then you could easily get going.
Let’s use the last weeks of term 3 to get those positive road safety messages out there! This challenge is a way to still make a difference, and you get to be really creative in the way you do it. If you need a SADD logo or resource for your social media page, then get in touch with Lydia!
