Know the Risks: Alcohol, Drugs & Driving Driving under the influence isn’t just risky—it’s illegal. If you’re under 20, the alcohol limit is zero. Even one drink could mean fines, demerit points, or losing your license. Drugs and some medications can mess with your reaction time and focus, making driving dangerous. Want to test what you know? Check out this interactive road code resource: drive.govt.nz. Try it with your mates or a SADD group and start the convo about staying safe on the road.

Workshops are buzzing, with rangatahi from McAuley, Kerikeri, Rosehill, Orewa, Whangārei Girls’, Kamo, Tauraroa, Rangitoto, and Taipa bringing creativity and commitment to their SADD groups. Exciting to see their passion, and I’m looking forward to supporting more schools and reconnecting with others! |

Bobbi (Lower North)
Term 1 is off to a great start! We had a huge workshop with 27 students from seven schools and solid plans forming across Taranaki, Masterton, Wellington, and Porirua. Conference registrations are rolling in, and next up is Whanganui’s regional workshop on March 20. Bring on 2025! |

Lauren (South Island)
Kicked off in Dunedin with a regional workshop before visiting South Otago, Gore, and Invercargill, where NZ Police joined insightful discussions. Timaru’s workshop, hosted at the fire station, saw strong community partnership support. Oamaru, Ashburton, Mount Hutt, Nelson, and Blenheim visits were filled with passionate student-led planning. Wrapped up at Queen Charlotte College where new groups are eager to get started—exciting year ahead! |

Mel (Central North)
March has been packed! Kicked off in Tauranga before heading to Gisborne, Napier, Taupo, and Waikato, where we had 40 students from 10 schools at Karapiro. Police, RSCs, and ACC provided great support, and students came up with fantastic road safety initiatives. Looking forward to upcoming workshops in Rototuna, Te Puke, and Whakatāne!

Just wrapped up four weeks of school visits alongside the Court Theatre’s Crash Bash road safety show—an awesome run! Plenty of interest in Conference too, so I’m hoping for a great turnout.

At Kaitiaki o Ara we are on a mission to empower young people to lead the charge in road safety, making our roads safer for all Kiwis. But to do that, we need YOUR help! We’ve put together a survey for 13 - 19 year olds to better understand what influences you, what digital platforms you love, and how you feel about road safety. Your answers will help us: Ensure our programmes are fun, engaging, and impactful, and actually resonate with young people. Share insights with decision-makers to shape a safer future for everyone on the road.
Why take the survey? Your opinion matters, and this is your chance to shape how road safety programmes work for people your age. Every respondent goes in the draw to win epic prizes, including a $100 voucher and free driving lessons!

This month is an important one as we gear up to support students to attend one of our two SADD Conferences in April. Along with the help of community partners, SADD provides support for those students who need help getting to the conference.
