What's new this month

Kia ora, Talofa lava, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Malo e lelei, Kia orana, Bula Vinaka, Namaste, Lumela. Warm greetings to all our loyal readers!

This month, we fairly bustled with activity nationwide.  We even made it over the ditch to our friends down under (though some may argue we are a little more down under here in Aotearoa)!  In this edition, you can read the highlights from the Western Australia Youth Road Safety Summit that Donna and Vic attended.

Big news is that we have two new Programme Delivery Leads.  Chas in the North Island and Anne-Marie in the South so we are well covered from The Cape to Bluff. Make sure to check out their blog in the content below.

Western Australia Youth Road Safety Summit

During this year’s Road Safety Week Donna and Vic traveled to Perth to support the Western Australia Road Safety Youth Summit, “Road Safety Starts with Me” and connected with partners from the WA Road Safety Commission.

This was a fantastic opportunity to show what we do at Kaitiaki o Ara/SADD and influence the development of youth-led road safety initiatives internationally. Check out this blog post to hear more about their trip!

We love collaboration. It’s incredibly rewarding to see what comes out of solid and understanding relationships. This is a great example and the following blog link tells you more about East Waikato Road Safety Council working with us.

Meet our board members

Simon Douglas - Trustee

Simon has been associated with Kaitiaki o Ara since he joined the NZAA in 2012.

Originally, Simon was the Secretary to the Board. In 2022 his AA role changed to Chief Policy & Advocacy Officer and he became one of the Kaitiaki o Ara/SADD Trustees which means he gets a chance to become more involved in the discussions on our programme, funding, and accountability.

As one of the representatives of the NZAA on the Board, Simon has a responsibility to monitor the funds that the AA provides to Kaitiaki o Ara.

Outside of work Simon is a regular commuter cyclist in Wellington, and has mentored two daughters through learning to drive – which helps keep the issues raised at the Board table real.

DRIVE information for coaches refreshed

Drive has launched their new and improved ‘Teach someone to drive’ section of the website.

This month, we want to say a big thank you to MU from Tokoroa and KingsWay School, Red Beach, Auckland.

The Head of Senior School at KingsWay, Daniel Bennett contacted us after students tried out our interactive video -The After Party. They simply wanted to show their appreciation for making it available for their use.
