What's new this month

Hey Team,

Yay Spring is here!!! Bring on the warmer months, I say! In this edition, you will find out about up and coming events for September and numerous other amazing bits of info.

It’s a massive month for our Kaitiaki o Ara/SADD groups as SAFER September kicks off! I have no doubt there will be some fantastic road safety messages and activities delivered throughout New Zealand. Read on for ideas, inspiration, and the heads up on what the Delivery Team has been presented with on the road already.

What’s that I hear? Didn’t we do something in the US of A? We did! Keep scrolling to find out more.

Also, don't forget that with the warmer months on the way, there will be a lot more motorcycles out and about. This leads me to remind everyone that Motorcycle Awareness Month falls this month too.

So, from me to you, enjoy your warmer days, and good luck to everyone with all your activities this month. Most importantly please be safe on our roads. There will be a lot of sports teams traveling for Aims and Sports Tournaments all round New Zealand in the next couple of weeks.

And don't forget, do the Mahi get the Treats!

SAFER September is here!

We’re so excited for all of the amazing activities and events that are scheduled to take place over the next month, so keep an eye on our social media channels to see highlights and inspiration all month long.

It’s never too late to get involved with the campaign - we have loads of ideas and encouragement on our website and in the blog post below.

Donna and Vic in the US of A!

In July Donna and Vic travelled to the mighty USA to connect with our SADD partners in Washington DC!

SADD USA started back in 1981 and was the inspiration for our own SADD programme here in New Zealand, which kicked off in 1985. Since then, our organisations have faced similar challenges, wins, progress and growth and it was such an incredible opportunity to connect with those who share our rich history.

They spent a week in Washington DC and during that time met with loads of amazing contacts from SADD USA, Washington DC Office of Highway Safety, Washington Regional Alcohol Programme (WRAP) and the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA). They learnt so much about road safety issues and initiatives happening across the United States.

Also, Donna and Vic had the opportunity to share lots about our own approaches and progress in New Zealand which was received incredibly well and we received some amazing feedback about the awesome work our young people are producing!

We may be a small country in comparison but we are inspiring and globally influential!

Our dynamic duo returned with heaps of ideas and inspiration, as well as opportunities for our young people to continue this global partnership in the months to come. Watch this space!

21 for September - Motorcycle Awareness Month

From Monday 21 August until the end of October, ACC is running a number of motorcycle initiatives and events across the country in celebration of Motorcycle Awareness Month.

Motorcycle Awareness Month is all about raising awareness of the new riding season and that with more riders on the road, the risks increase.

We know from research that riders are 21 times more likely than car drivers to be killed or injured on our roads. This needs to change. So this year they are asking riders to support MAM by doing their 21 for September.

21 for September aims to prepare riders for the upcoming riding season by giving them a checklist of 21 simple things they can do to get themselves ride-ready.
