What's new this month

Welcome to our April newsletter. After a couple of long weekends, I hope everyone managed to get a little break. The start of Term 2 is upon us and the SADD/Kaitiaki o Ara team is gearing up for the upcoming workshops. Watch this space!

In my new role as the Project Coordinator, I get a good glimpse of what is going on behind the scenes. There are many exciting projects that we are ticking off and others that are works in progress. It is a real pleasure to see what we have accomplished so far and all that we are planning to achieve.

Road Safety Week is coming next week. It’s a time when everyone gets the chance to celebrate their Road Safety Heroes. If you haven't registered yet, this is your chance! In our eyes you are all our heroes - without you, we wouldn't be here.

For those of you who are keen to step up to a Leadership role for SADD/Kaitiaki o Ara, applications will be open very soon. You can find out more in the article below.

This is, as always, an exciting time for us and deciding who will be selected is never easy. No matter how much or how little each one of you is doing, every contribution to keep our roads safe is priceless. I am proud to be part of SADD/Kaitiaki o Ara and to help spread awareness about our kaupapa.

Leadership Programme - unleash your potential!

SADD's Leadership Programme applications are live this week and we are calling all Year 12 students to apply who are interested in developing their leadership skills, want to represent young people involved with SADD on a national level, and are keen to make our roads safer!

This is an awesome opportunity to build your own skills whilst giving back, so check out the info pack, pass it on to anyone you know who might be interested, and get in touch with our team if you have any questions!

Opihi College SADD event

The Opihi College SADD group did an incredible job running a "what would you miss?" activity on April 10th. To gain interest, messages were put in the notices the week before the activity. In whānau class, students wrote what they would miss if they were involved in a serious road accident on a Post-it Note which was collected by the senior students in the group. The SADD group then drew a chalk road that led to the vehicle so people could find it. Better yet, if students participated when they arrived at the car, they got a lolly!

SADD/Kaitiaki o Ara - gradual change updates for partners

We will be running a new little section in our newsletter when needed and backing that up with a place on our website to keep you in touch with tweaks and changes to our organisation.

We have aspirations to address which include how to better place the youth voice at the forefront of what we do - rangatahi being our guardians!

We operate on a "no surprises" basis (honestly!) and we encourage partners to keep an eye on future newsletters for updates and to contact us directly if you are considering using SADD/Kaitiaki on resources etc.

On the subject of our alternate name and a new logo - we are currently finalising a refreshed brand guide and that piece of work also includes how we share downloads of the new suite of logos as each version has a specific use in mind.

So - keep an eye on coming newsletters for updates on our transition and if you want access to our new logos, for whatever reason, get in touch with Vic or Rog.

Towards the end of 2019 a group of students from Waikato Diocesan School for Girls completed an awesome mural at their school! Now you can have the cool design with you on the go!
